Careers Special Constables

A civilian position for offender transportation, security, court duties, and forensic analysis.

Job description

Special Constables carry out a variety of vital duties within the Sarnia Police Service (SPS). These include the custody and transportation of prisoners, report-taking, and contributing to the safety and security of our citizens through excellence in policing practices.

Roles and responsibilities include:

  • Searching, guarding and management of persons in custody
  • Providing for the safety and security of persons in custody, staff and members of the public
  • Service of legal documents and execution of warrants and other court orders
  • Execution of warrant and other court orders
  • Transportation of persons in custody to the nearest designated facility
  • Interacting with members of the public on our front desk

Application process

  1. Review the Application Checklist. All documents listed in the checklist are required as part of the application. Do not complete an application until you have all of the documents at your disposal.
  2. Applicants are required to submit a valid OACP Certificate and their OACP Special Constable Physical Test Results
  3. After completing the online application, email all required documents to recruitment@police.sarnia.on.ca indicating your name and the date of your online application.
  4. If selected to continue in the process, applicants are required to complete a Pre-Background Questionnaire prior to being interviewed.
  5. In order to continue in the process, applicants are required to participate in the Ontario Fitness Pin Test and achieve a minimum of 75% Candidates for Special Constable must also obtain a Level 5 in the 20m Shuttle Run (Beep Test).
  6. If successful in the Shuttle Run (Beep Test) and Pin Test, an interview (combined Local Focus Interview and Essential Competencies Interview) will be conducted in front of a panel of recruiters.
  7. If the applicant is successful in the interview stages, the applicant undergoes a medical examination, a psychological examination, and an applicant background investigation occurs.
  8. Conditional offer of employment is made, contingent on satisfactory results of all aspects of the recruitment process.
