Constable Lewis
On May 23, 1936, Constable Lewis was called to a robbery at a liquor store on Cromwell and Christina Streets. As soon as he walked in, he was fatally shot by the notorious criminal, Norman “Red” Ryan. Shortly after, Sergeant George Smith arrived in response to the same call and shot and killed Ryan and his accomplice.
Constable Lewis was a 7 year member of the Sarnia Police, was married and had 2 children.
Constable Vanderveer
On March 22, 1944, while pursuing a vehicle southbound on Highway 40 in Sarnia on his motorcycle, Constable Vanderveer tragically lost his life in an instant when he collided with a train at a level crossing. At the time of his untimely death, he had dedicated eight years of service to the force.
Constable Vanderveer was married with 2 children.
