Job description
The Sarnia Police Service (SPS) knows people are at the heart of policing. As such, recruiting and selecting the right individuals is of paramount importance to us. Policing is a fast-paced and dynamic profession that must keep up and evolve with our rapidly changing world.

Each day, officers:
- Improve and maintain the safety, security, and quality of life for residents through the application of community policing methods
- Contribute to the development and achievement SPS goals and objectives
- Enforce federal, provincial, and municipal statutes in response to citizens' complaints
- Respond to service calls
- Prepare and process charges under federal, provincial, and municipal statutes
- Participate in activities and projects
- Undertake special assignments
- Give evidence in court

Application process
- Review the Application Checklist. All documents listed in the checklist are required as part of the application. Do not complete an application until you have all of the documents at your disposal.
- Applicants are required to submit a valid OACP Certificate, as well as their OACP Fitness Log, Daily Fitness Journals and completed OACP Medical Form before applying. If you have previously completed the OACP Certificate, you can check if it’s still valid here.
- After completing the online application, email all required documents to recruitment@police.sarnia.on.ca indicating your name and the date of your online application.
- If selected to continue in the process, applicants are required to complete a Pre-Background Questionnaire prior to being interviewed.
- In order to continue in the process, applicants are required to participate in the Ontario Fitness Pin Test and achieve a minimum score of 75%. Candidates for Police Constable also obtain a Level 7 in the 20m Shuttle Run (Beep Test).
- If successful in the Shuttle Run, a Local Focus Interview (LFI) will take place.
- If successful in the LFI, an Essential Competencies Interview (ECI) will be conducted in front of a panel of recruiters.
- If the applicant is successful in the interview stages, applicant undergoes a medical examination, a psychological examination and an applicant background investigation occurs.
- Conditional offer of employment is made, contingent on satisfactory results of all aspects of the recruitment process.
